NAS ON VENICE BEACH
FROM THE SHORELINE TO THE STARS
My story began when I ventured out on my own, notebook in hand, guided only by the quiet certainty that I was meant to uncover something sacred—within myself and in the world. I wrote everything down: the lessons, the omens, the echoes of fate. Tarot came to me like honey finds the bee—sweet, inevitable, and alive. As I learned each suit and character, it became clear: these cards weren’t just stories—they were mirrors. Reflections of struggle, survival, and the grace to keep moving forward.
During that time, I faced deep mental blockages, wandering through California’s magnetic chaos. The land whispered in riddles; Venice Beach, especially, spoke in poems. My notebooks overflowed. Ideas, memories, warnings, dreams. We don’t get to choose when trauma visits—but I knew mine wouldn’t define me. My response would. That would be my legacy: resilience, not ruin.
I didn’t expect my spiritual awakening to come disguised as homelessness. But it did. That time in Venice—especially during COVID—was both crucible and crown. I met people from all walks of life, each one a lesson in character, each interaction a mirror. I witnessed truths I never wanted to see—and also the beauty of humanity stripped bare.
Art became my language. I painted and sold my pieces to people from all over the world. Expression pulled me out of a shell I’d long outgrown. And beyond the art, I became a leader. During the Venice Beach sweep between 2020 and 2024, I helped guide a community of unhoused individuals toward shelter and stability. I fed people. I fought for them. I stood in the gap.
COVID was the storm. We were the survivors.
Tarot, for me, became more than a tool—it became a form of meditation, a resurrection. A way to enter the liminal space between time and spirit, between memory and possibility. Yes, these practices can seem intimidating. But I believe we all carry pieces in our charts—our stories—that ache to be seen. Not everyone is ready to confront them. But those who are? They become their own oracle.
